What do we Strive For?
Our facility was started with only one goal in mind, to teach people about horses while fostering hands-on learning and progressive education.
Claudia and Taylor Swisher are a grandmother/granddaughter team that takes on students of all ages and disciplines. Claudia Swisher founded Balanced Awareness Horsemanship, where the goal is for every rider to learn about the horse from the hooves up. To the RSR team, there is more to horses than just riding.
“Claudia teaches the student so much more than just riding! She is passionate about educating students about total horse care, and her program is top-notch.” -Christine K.
“From the warm welcome to the knowledge, the family feel, and the scenic views. Rocky Springs Ranch has been our pick for over three years, and my daughters have loved every day we’re there! They are perfect for all ages! They are understanding, professional, fit our budget, and offer every aspect of horsemanship!”- Mallorie W.
“They are excellent teachers. They are willing to work at your pace and make sure you understand what communicating with your horse is all about; how to listen to the horse.” - JD Smith
“My daughter has been taking classes at Rocky Springs Ranch for over two years. Both Claudia and Taylor are excellent instructors. I like how they prioritize relationships with the horse and caring for the animal, promoting a sense of responsibility. These classes highlight my daughter’s week, and I have seen her grow more confident as she continues. The instructors get to know the kids they work with, and the classes are tailored perfectly while also encouraging student growth. I highly recommend riding lessons at Rocky Springs Ranch.”- Jane Hall-Williams
"They combine caring instructions with horse sense! They know how to talk and speak the horse's language and teach people how to develop relationships, riding skill, and care. Highly recommended for all ages and abilities.” -Rebekah R.
“Rocky Springs Ranch in Gore, VA is a lovely place. Claudia Swisher is well known in the equestrian world as an expert in all things horses. She gives instructions in riding from beginner to higher levels. She has a unique talent in observing both horse and rider in great detail, and assesses what it will take to get them going well together. Her granddaughter Taylor is also giving lessons and definitely on her way to developing equal skills. The barn is spacious, the arena is well-kept, and the whole experience is totally positive. -Sibyl MacKenzie
